Products and nutrition
What products do you offer?
We offer handmade organic sourdough bread, pastries, and sweets. In our manufactory, we also produce many to-go meals, spreads, soups, and desserts. We source products for our grocery store directly from long-standing partners. Our specialty coffee is roasted by our friends at Coffee Collective in Copenhagen.
Where do you get your grains from?
We source 100% of our grain from Austria, directly from organic farming families whom we know personally.
Can you also eat at your place?
Yes—all of our locations offer good coffee and a selection of food, drinks, and, of course, our pastries. In Vienna, we also operate two bistros with changing menus. You can find the current menu under the locations menu item.
Do you offer vegan products?
Yes—our sourdough bread and most of our baked goods are naturally vegan. You will also find a changing selection of vegan options in our sweet range.
What whole grain products do you have in your range?
Many of our breads contain whole grain. Some are even baked from 100% whole grain, such as
- Bio Urlaib
- Bio Vollkorn Saatenbrot
- Bio Schoko Gugelhupf

What are ancient grains and how do they affect the body?
Ancient grains are the original form of grain—unmodified and cultivated in their natural state for centuries. They naturally contain more minerals, fiber, and phytochemicals and are often better tolerated than modern, highly processed grains.
Do you have gluten-free bread or pastries?
Yes. We even built a small mini bakery for this purpose and bake two certified gluten-free sourdough breads there:
- Bio Saatenbrot
- Bio Gewürztes Hafer Amaranth Brot
Not certified, but made from gluten-free ingredients:
- Bio Mohnkuchen
- Bio Brownie
Do you also offer sourdough?
Yes. We sell our sourdough starter in jars—for anyone who wants to bake their own bread at home. Available in all stores

About us
Can I take a tour of your bakery?
We appreciate your interest. As our bakery is in operation, tours can only take place in exceptional cases and for selected partners. Thank you for your understanding.
What's it like behind the scenes at Joseph Brot?
In our bakery in the Waldviertel region, we bake everything from scratch. We source our ingredients locally wherever possible, but always directly from our partner farms. Then it takes time: at least one day from the dough mixture to the finished bread. Sometimes even half a week. The long dough preparation and fermentation process makes the bread particularly aromatic and easier to digest. Each loaf is baked twice, which keeps the moisture inside and makes the crust especially crispy. We do not use any artificial additives—only natural raw materials from certified organic cultivation.
